TAMBUNAN: Four villages here, namely Kampung Dabata, Kampung Nambayan, Kampung Lalapakon and Kampung Gana, were hit by flash floods due to the rising water level in the Pegalan River.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Assistant Director (Operations) Misran Bisara said the Tambunan JBPM received an emergency call on floods in Kampung Gana at 6.28pm on Wednesday following heavy rain in the upper reaches of Sungai Pegalan, here.

“A JBPM team monitored the affected area and found three other villages were also inundated by flood water and roads in the three villages cannot be used by vehicles,” he said, adding that no evacuations were carried out by the authorities.

According to him, some village residents evacuated themselves to safer places when their homes were flooded, adding that firemen were still monitoring the locations.

He said checks by firemen found that the floods in the village areas and on roads in Kampung Dabata and Kampung Gana were receding, while several roads in the villages had reopened to traffic.

“The JBPM team is still at the location at this time to ensure there is no other danger in the areas under floodwater,” he said.

Tambunan is a district in the interior of Sabah, located 80 kilometres east of Kota Kinabalu.
