An explosion at the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD) confiscated evidence storage facility caused injuries to 3 people yesterday at around 6:15pm.
Based on a report by Astro Awani, the incident took place during the process of disposing of firecrackers and fireworks.
Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai shared that the police had requested help from the 3 victims to carry and clean the firecrackers and fireworks.
“While they were cleaning, suddenly there was a fire that resulted in an explosion. As a result, 3 workers, who are civilians, were slightly injured by the explosion fragments,” he said.
The 3 victims have since been taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for treatment and police have not found any elements of treachery linked to this incident.
Eng Lai also explained that the procedure of disposing of such case items according to the court order, is to roll it out using a bulldozer, before dousing it with water and burying it.
“The fire involved a confiscated evidence storage facility measuring in 100 x 50 square feet and 30% of the building structure and 80% of the open area involving 50 vehicles were burnt,” he added.
Netizens have since shared their concern that guilty parties will go unpunished since evidence to cases have been destroyed in the fire.
“Can throw out cases, the evidence is no more.”
“Tomorrow the cases will be closed. The evidence has disappeared.”
