HYDERABAD – Furious over her 15-year-old son’s addiction to marijuana, an Indian mother took matters into her own hands by punishing him in the most excruciating way possible.
In a now-viral video posted on Twitter, the incident is believed to have occurred in Kodad, in the Suryapet district of Telangana.
After discovering his drug habit, the woman tied her son to a pole as he struggled to shove a fistful of chili powder away from his face, causing some to fall out from her hand.
However, she didn’t relent from unleashing the heat on him and got the help of another woman who held his hands back as she rubbed the chili powder right into his eyes.
As the chili powder began to kick in, the teenager started to scream hysterically like a wild animal while flailing his arms in agony.
Despite her son’s pleas for help, the woman refused to clean the chili powder of his face until he promised to steer clear of marijuana for good.

A step too far?
While such forms of punishment for delinquent children is common in Telangana, netizens were largely against the method, arguing that there were better ways of disciplining a child.
One wrote, “I kind of understand the mother’s intent and emotion…but Mirchi powder in [the] eyes seems a bit too much…”
Another slammed the video, saying that the woman was actually liable to a lengthy jail sentence if her son were to go blind.
Others believed that the woman might have strengthen her son’s rebellious resolve instead of bringing him to right path after leaving such deep and lasting psychological scars on him.
