SHAH ALAM, April 28 — Five Selangor districts will see heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until 9pm tonight, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 6.30pm, the agency said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“Other states and areas which will also see inclement weather include Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan, as well as Kuantan and Pekan in Pahang.

“Kedah (Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) and Johor (Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) will similarly be affected,” it said.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching (Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong (Pusa and Betong) while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Keningau).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
