World Cup winner Luca Toni has had his say on the future of AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Another knee strain has forced the 40 year-old to the sidelines with many pundits claiming it's time he hung up the boots.

"After a story like the one between Ibra and Milan, I hope it's Zlatan to take the final decision," Toni told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is a champion and deserves to choose what to do. He deserves to finish as a protagonist, given what he has represented.

“I would tell him to go ahead until he can," the 2006 Italy World Cup winner continued. “If he can't do so, if he can't play at his best, it's better to stop.

“It would be sad to see a champion like Ibra not getting enough playing time or not being up to the task. A player like him must always be at the top, like during his entire career."
