Kota Kinabalu: The number of new Covid-19 infections in Sabah dipped below 100 on Monday, with 65 cases, the lowest since May 18 last year, according to Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
In comparison to the 124 cases reported on Sunday, the new count has decreased by 59.
“On behalf of the State Government and other government agencies involved in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah, I’d like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to the people of this State for their strict adherence to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) in force.
“This approach will undoubtedly assist the Government in more successfully managing the spread of Covid-19. More importantly, I’d like to convey my gratitude and appreciation to all our frontliners who fought tirelessly day and night to safeguard the health and safety of all residents of this State,” he said in a statement, Monday.
Meanwhile, the low number of Covid-19 cases on Monday was attributed to two factors.
“First, a relatively big decline in new cases in some districts, and second, a small or marginal increase in districts where new cases increased,” Masidi explained.
Among the districts that recorded a significant decrease in new cases were Kota Kinabalu (-17), Penampang (-12), Putatan (-8), Beaufort (-8) and Tuaran (-6).
On the other hand, although nine districts recorded an increase in new cases, six of them only recorded an increase of one case compared to the previous one.
Kota Kinabalu is the only district to record new double-digit cases on Monday. A total of 16 districts recorded only one-digit cases and 13 of the districts only recorded new cases between one to four cases.
There were no new infections in 10 districts.
“As a reminder, although daily cases in Sabah have decreased significantly, the percentage of sporadic infections remains high at 55.4 per cent,” said Masidi.
Fifty-nine of the 65 new patients on Monday are in Categories 1 and 2, and two patients each in Categories 3, 4 and 5.
