The well-respected lawyer opined that Sam should be given leave to appeal and pending the appeal, she must be granted a stay of conviction and sentence. The accused in the Basikal Lajak is currently serving her sentence for reckless driving which caused the deaths of eight teenagers on 18 February 2017. If given the stay of conviction, she would be allowed to go out on bail until after the case is heard in the Court of Appeal.

Shafee, who is also the vice-president of Persatuan Alumni Rumpun Fakulti Undang-Undang Universiti Malaysa further hoped to be able to deliver a message about justice. He stressed that it has nothing to do about the race or religion of Sam and the eight deceased teenagers.
