Two Tawau Ngos get cash aid

TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew made two donations of RM5,000 each to Persatuan Klan Liu Tawau Sabah and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Tawau Prihatin at the Tawau Parliamentary People’s Service Centre.

Liew noted that Pertubuhan Kebajikan Tawau Prihatin is one of the most active non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in welfare work in the district.

Presently, the association has more than 400 members.

“We thank the MP for her support. We are in the midst of raising funds to purchase a suitable building for our official premises in Sri Tanjung. The building costs about RM600,000,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Tawau Prihatin, Asmah Kadir said the organisation would utilise the donation for the 2022 Raya Decorative Arch Competition open to villages in the Tawau parliamentary constituency (comprising Sri Tanjung, Apas and Balung state constituencies).

“A total of 27 villages have registered with us for the competition. We have participants from as far as Kalabakan and Pulau Sebatik. They are now busy erecting their respective arches which must be ready before Hari Raya on May 3. The judges will be from Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) and the private sector,” she told the MP.

The first three winners will each receive RM5,000, a hamper and certificate, RM3000, a hamper and certificate, and RM1,000, a hamper and certificate, respectively. Fourth and fifth-placed will get RM700, a hamper and certificate, and RM500, a hamper and certificate, respectively.

There will be a consolation prize of RM200 plus a hamper and certificate for the sixth up to the tenth position. All other participants will each receive a hamper and certificate.
