The Daily Mail says United are following the youngster closely and are interested in him ahead of the summer's transfer window.
Branthwaite's contract with Everton extends until the summer of 2025.
United wants to rejuvenate the squad and sees Branthwaite as one for the future.
This season, the 19 year-old has made eight appearances for Everton.
