PETALING JAYA: The body of a Malaysian man, believed to have been murdered, has been found by police near Bathurst in New South Wales, Australia.
The remains, believed to be that of Jacky Chong, were found yesterday at about 3.30pm after police began a search at a rural property in Killongbutta.
Police said the body would be subjected to forensic examination and DNA testing for a report to be prepared for the coroner, according to news.com.au.
This comes after three men, aged 33, 22 and 28, were charged in late March in connection with Chong’s death.
Chong, 24, had been living in Sydney since 2016 but had reportedly not spoken to his family since Dec 28.
His family told police they believed he may have been working in New South Wales before his disappearance.
Last week, drug and firearms squad commander John Watson said Chong was allegedly part of an organised criminal syndicate before he was “violently murdered”.
“We know Jacky was working for a criminal enterprise involved in the cultivation of cannabis in regional NSW around the time of his alleged murder. The circumstances of his death are particularly gruesome.
“These criminal groups are known for targeting young individuals with the promise of easy money, which often leads to them working in illegal grow houses on remote properties,” he said.
