Kota Kinabalu: Sabah and Labuan Prisons Director Nora Musa urged the community to continue to support rehabilitation programmes in the community.

She said the Sabah Prisons Department requires the assistance of all parties, including family members, the community, and employers, in order to provide prisoners on Parole Orders, Prisoners Released on Licence, Compulsory Attendance Orders, and Henry Gurney School inmates a second chance.

“We hope that these inmates will be allowed to work so that they can rebuild their lives.”

All prisoners have received training in certain skill areas while in detention, and we aim for them to have at least one post-release skills certificate for survival.

“People do not have to be worried about security since prison personnel will always observe and monitor,” she said during a visit to her office from Sabah Information Director Nadzerah Abdullah.

On that note, she said her Department will collaborate with the Information Department to develop community rehabilitation programmes.

“We hope that the Information Department can assist in explaining to the community about our rehabilitation programme so that it is well received by all members of the community.

“We can also introduce the products and services offered by the Prisons Department with the cooperation,” she said.

Cakes, handicrafts, tailoring, laundry, ironing, and reflexology services are among the products sold.

Also present were Information Deputy Director Harun Maddasa, Cyber Media Division Chief Assistant Director Geraldine Voo Yee Wen and senior officers from the State Prisons Department.
