Discuss Dewan dissolution with PN first as we rule govt: Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR – Ousted former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin cautioned his successor Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob over Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) position in the government, adding that the dissolution of Parliament should be discussed with his coalition first.

This comes after the PN leadership held a meeting with the prime minister last night.

Taking to Facebook, Muhyiddin said among the discussions held during last night’s meeting included matters pertaining to the rakyat’s interest.

The Pagoh MP said the meeting saw Ismail Sabri emphasising PN’s cooperation in the federal government, which he said is committed to negotiating with the coalition to determine the nation’s main policies.

“I also reminded the prime minister that PN is the main coalition forming the federal government, which must negotiate with us before determining the date for Parliament’s dissolution,” Muhyiddin said.

His statement comes after the federal government faced opposition from within their ranks over the proposal of a new anti-hopping bill.

Last Wednesday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Jaafar confirmed that the much-awaited anti-hopping bill was deferred.

Wan Junaidi said there was resistance to the proposed law from within the government, blaming differences of opinions over the matter.

Citing sources, The Vibes reported on April 7, that the strongest opposition against the bill comes from PN component party Bersatu.

Under the ruling coalition in the Dewan Rakyat, Ismail Sabri’s Barisan Nasional (BN) holds 41 seats, PN 42, GPS 18, GRS nine, and PBM two seats.

However, as a sole party, Umno commands 37 seats in comparison to its closest rival Bersatu with 25 seats. – The Vibes, April 10, 2022
