Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo was caught on camera lashing out at an Everton fan following defeat at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes of United's embarrassing 1-0 defeat against the relegation-threatened Toffees. He had no luck up front for Ralf Rangnick's side, who succumbed to defeat after Anthony Gordon's effort was deflected in off Harry Maguire.
The Portuguese star looked furious after the final whistle, partly due to an injury he picked up in the closing stages. Pictures showed that Ronaldo had a bleeding shin following a strong tackle – and he was not in the mood to be taunted by the home fans.
A video posted on Twitter shows Ronaldo appearing to smash a supporters' outstretched phone into the tarmac as he storms down the tunnel at Goodison Park. Ronaldo can be seen stomping down the tunnel with a shin pad in his left hand, while he lashes out with his right hand clenched into a fist.
Ronaldo later confirmed his actions, stating: "It's never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing.
"Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.
"I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship."
