The recent court decision to sentence Sam Ke Ting to 6 years’ improsinment and a fine of RM6,000 for the offence of reckless driving resulting in the death of 8 teenagers on modified bikes (basikal lajak) has received widespread backlash.

Although the parents of the victims are relieved over the judgement, it seems that the majority of Malaysians disagree.

Some have even shown their disapproval by setting up online petitions and some have even taken to social media to share videos of basikal lajak riders to prove how reckless they are.

Recently, a CCTV clip from 2017 of a basikal lajak rider who slammed into a parked car and hit his head on the sidewalk went viral on social media.

Twitter users have shared the clip to show another instance of how reckless basikal lajak riders really are.

Outrage towards court’s decision on Sam Ke Ting

Considering how Malaysians are still outraged over the court decision on Sam Ke Ting, many users proceeded to share sarcastic comments appearing to poke at how basikal lajak riders are protected by the law.

“He is not in the wrong. He is a good son. He rarely rides the bicycle since he always helps him mum to sell puddings. It’s the car’s fault for parking like that,” said one user who referenced what one of the parents of the victims in Sam’s case stated.

Users sarcastically highlighted how the driver of the car is at fault. “The driver should’ve known that kids race their bikes there.”

Another user sarcastically said, “It’s obviously the fault of the car and the pavement. Why was it parked there and why is the pavement made out of stone?”
