KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will be getting an additional 67-megawatt electricity supply from a large-scale RM268 million solar project, to be completed by June 2023.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said a total of eight local companies that won the bidding process have been selected to carry out the project to build eight solar power plants in the State.
He hoped the project could solve the insufficiency of power supply in some of the places in Sabah where the demand of the people and industries can be fulfilled.
“My Ministry implement this project through our two agencies – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), and it is a historic one and a first time in Sabah although it has been started for quite some time.
“The appointment of the eight local companies to realise this vital project was a result from an open and fair bidding process among the industry players of providing renewable energy especially solar in Sabah.
“I was informed that there are 10 local companies to be appointed for this large-scale project but only eight were successful in their biddings while another two will be appointed soon,” he said.
Takiyuddin said this after launching the large-scale solar project held here, Friday.
