The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has reminded the public that the tax filing deadline for this year is set on 30 April 2022 (manual submissions) and 15 May 2022 (e-Filing submissions). Specifically, these deadlines are for taxpayers who do not carry on business, filing their taxes for Year of Assessment 2021 (YA2021).

“Taxpayers are advised to submit the tax return form and pay their income tax within the stipulated period to avoid any penalty for late submission of forms and any increase for late payment. Taxpayers are also advised to key in and update their personal and banking information accurately to assist for tax refund process (if any),” LHDN shared in its notice.

This means that there will not be any extension to the deadlines for tax filing this year, as both 30 April and 15 May are the usual due dates adhered to each year for taxpayers with non-business income – although there have been some exceptions before. For instance, LHDN extended the deadline submission of tax returns in 2020 for Year of Assessment 2019 (YA2019) as a form of financial support due to the nation’s fight against Covid-19; back then, individuals with non-business income were allowed to file their returns via e-Filing up until 30 June 2020.

In its latest statement, LHDN also said that taxpayers who are uncertain about the deadlines can refer to the schedule for this year’s income tax programme for further information. Meanwhile, those who have any enquiries or feedback regarding the tax filing process can reach out to LHDN via the Care Line at 03-8911 1000 or 603-8911 1100 (overseas). You can also use the HASiL Live Chat and feedback form on the LHDN official portal to share your comments.

Finally, LHDN shared that as of 31 March 2022, the number of taxpayers with non-business income who have filed their taxes (both manually and through e-Filing) stands at 1,163,444 individuals.
