
Recently, a video of a lecturer from a public university insulting a student from the B40 group for not being able to afford a laptop during a Google Meet class went viral on social media. It all started when a student decided to answer a question asked by the lecturer. That's when the lecturer noticed that he was using his smartphone instead of a laptop to attend class.
After that, she asked him to ask his sibling to sell their gold jewellery and buy him a laptop. She even said, "This is the reason why I don't associate myself with B40!" B40 stands for those classified as the bottom 40% in the income classifications are used to categorise Malaysians by their household income. Malaysians who belong in this group are normally paid very little and struggle to keep up with rising living costs.
