Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar says the players recognise the importance of their clash with Leicester City.

Sunday could be a pivotal day in the relegation battle with three points for Newcastle, coupled with a win for West Ham over Burnley, putting a 13-point gap between the Magpies and the third bottom Clarets.

Schar is eager to get the job done sooner rather than later and despite that healthy distance between United and Burnley, he told Chronicle Live: "We have another two home games coming up now. I think we have been pretty strong at home this season.

"And the last home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers so we just have to try to keep going like this. We want more points on the board.

"We want to be safe and we know that there is still work for us to do. We can improve our points tally. But now we are in a position to do that after Wolves."
