Sabah PKR’s ‘Gang 16’ looks to remove Liew in May polls

KOTA KINABALU – A group known as Gang 16 or Kumpulan KK led by Keningau PKR chief Datuk Sangkar Rasam is bent on removing state chair Datuk Christina Liew in the May party polls.

The group will field candidates in all Sabah divisions to rival pro-Liew candidates, and this is not the first time it is calling for her ouster.

The appointment of the state chairman is made by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, taking into account views of the divisional chiefs.

Gang 16 secretariat Simsuddin Sidek today made official that the group’s candidates are eyeing Sabah and Labuan’s top divisional posts.

Sabah PKR has 25 divisional posts.

“But we are still waiting for the screening process. Some of their nominations may be rejected,” he said.

Liew, meanwhile, said her group has fielded candidates in 18 divisions and denied the existence of a rival faction.

“We have fielded our candidates. So we will just see how the election goes next month. There is no such thing as Gang 16. They just created that for themselves.”

Anwar won the president post uncontested, but PKR could still see an intense battle for the deputy president and vice-president posts. – The Vibes, April 14, 2022
