Kota Kinabalu: Political analysts have accused Warisan of deliberately raising tensions with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to distance itself from the opposition coalition.

Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya said Warisan’s move to take in PH elected representatives and contest against the coalition in the Johor elections angered PH and could further strain their relations.

He said Warisan was obviously looking for a different coalition to work with in the next general election (GE15).

“Cracks have emerged in its relationship with DAP after Warisan decided to recruit two of its former elected representatives.

“This was worsened by Warisan contesting in PH areas in the recent Johor elections,” he told FMT.

Awang Azman said it would be difficult for Warisan to win many seats, especially in Sabah, if it did not join forces with another party in GE15.

He said Warisan probably felt it was in a strong position now and wanted to spread its wings to the peninsula. As such, it may be giving less focus to Sabah.

Tony Paridi Bagang of Universiti Teknologi Mara shared similar sentiments, saying it would be hard for the party if it decided to contest solo.

However, he believed that Warisan would definitely enter into a political alliance with other parties ahead of GE15.

“It is quite impossible for the party to win on its own and form a government. Therefore, political cooperation is essential for Warisan,” he said.
