Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui has refused to criticise fans for whistling on-loan Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial.
Martial has been regularly whistled by his own fans during his time in Spain and Lopetegui has now been asked about the jeers. The Sevilla boss, who was recently linked to United — before ruling himself out of the running — refused to condemn the fans that choose to whistle Martial.
"This is elite football and people are free and can express themselves as they feel," Lopetegui told AS.
“As a coach, I have to help him to achieve his best version. He is also a professional and has to do his part and adapt to what we ask of him."
Martial is due to return to United at the end of the season. He's contracted at Old Trafford until June 2024.
