Kota Kinabalu: Parents are advised to prioritise the safety of children when visiting crowded places.
Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said although the country is in the endemic transition phase, the public, especially parents, need to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent Covid-19 infections.
“Crowded areas are bad environment for children, especially those who do not have vaccination protection.
“When we are in the endemic transition phase, a lot of flexibility is given, for example the Ramadan bazaar is allowed to operate.
“However, we advise parents to abide by the SOPs to ensure the health and safety of children.”
Meanwhile, Shahelmey said vaccination is still continuing at Vaccination Centres (PPVs).
“We still encourage people who have not been vaccinated to do so, especially the elderly and children aged 5 to 11 years. Those who have not received the booster dose are also advised to go and get one,” he said.
He was speaking at the closing of the 2022 Ramadan Brotherhood Ceremony with Women’s NGOs at Wisma Wanita.
The programme was organised by the Sabah Intellectual Women Entrepreneurs Association (SWISE) together with the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) and Adabi Sabah Distribution Sdn Bhd.
“The purpose of the programme is to enliven the atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, in addition to fostering the spirit of volunteerism among women and also women’s NGOs under the auspices of Jhewa”, he said.
Also present were Assistant Ministers of Community Development and People Wellbeing Datuk Julita Majungki and Flovia Ng and Jhewa Director, Haslina Ismail.
