Kota Kinabalu: State Science, Technology and Innovation Assistant Minister Dato’ Sri Dr Ruddy Awah will be meeting with People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) leaders throughout Sabah to reinforce unity and cooperation among Rela members in the State.

He said there was a need to strengthen Rela members for them to play their roles more effectively.

He said this after accepting the appointment as advisor of the Persatuan Ahli-Ahli Bersekutu dan Kehormat Jabatan Sukarelawan (Rela) Malaysia Negeri Sabah by its President Dato’ Sri Wong Chong Fah, here.

Ruddy commended Rela personnel for their selfless spirit in serving the people at the frontline regardless of where they were.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the advisor of the association and would do my best to enhance unity among Rela members.

“In fact, I would be carrying out a ‘jelajah’ throughout Sabah soon, together with Rela Sabah Director Mohammad Pauzi Jhumat and Wong, to meet with Rela leaders in an effort to improve cooperation and unity among members,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wong said Ruddy, who is also Pitas Assemblyman, has always given support to Sabah Rela and recognised the contribution of Rela members to the society.

“Upon discussion among the committee, we have unanimously decided to appoint Datuk Ruddy Awah as an advisor of our association to enable Rela members to play a bigger role in society.”

He believed that the appointment of Ruddy as advisor would boost the morale of Rela personnel in the State as well.

Also present were Persatuan Ahli-Ahli Bersekutu dan Kehormat Jabatan Sukarelawan (Rela) Malaysia Negeri Sabah Deputy President Samsu Baharun Osman, Vice President Phang Jyn Yenn, Treasurer Gracelina Oscar, Secretary Dennis Gan and committee member Johnny Wong Sin Fatt.
