Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says working with Lionel Messi at Barcelona made him a better coach.

In an interview with Telemundo, Guardiola discussed his time as coach of Barcelona and the influence Messi had on him.

"He made me more competition-oriented than my parents," said Pep.

"He brought out the best in everyone in Barcelona. I still owe him a bottle of wine for opening up my options in the coaching world."

Guardiola further discussed his squad over his four years as Barcelona coach.

"There was a fantastic group of players who helped each other. There was a very special chemistry between them all, and that kind of thing only happens once in a lifetime," he added.
