Esbjerg fB defender Kevin Conboy has recalled being signed by Erik ten Hag for FC Utrecht.

Ten Hag will leave Ajax for Manchester United at the end of this season.

"The first time I met him was when I signed for Utrecht," Conboy told the Daily Star. "Usually when you sign a contract the manager tells you 'you're good at this' and 'this is why we want to sign you.' But with him I was quite surprised because he found 20 or 30 clips of me playing and showed me what I should be doing better instead of telling me what I was already good at.

"Already, he was analysing what we could do better and how he could improve us. He also said, 'look, you're a good player, we want to sign you, and we are happy that you are here,' but I was most impressed by the things that he wanted me to improve instead. My first impression of him was that he was very detail orientated."

Conboy also said: "It was purely football for him.

"That was my impression. It was mainly football. As I said, out of everyone I've met, he's the guy who lives and breathes football the most. I've never met anybody else that is as dedicated to football and his job as a manager."

But is he the right man for the United job?

"In my opinion yes," Conboy, a United fan, replies. "He is the man who can put structure into the club. He has a proven way of doing things which yield results."
