Kota Kinabalu: With just a little over a month away from the May 9 polls, the defunct Sultanate of Sulu’s so-called claim over Sabah seems to be losing steam as an issue among the political aspirants

It was only mentioned in passing in the 90-day campaign period, unlike previous years – perhaps an indication that the issue is not a simple matter.

In fact, the 10 presidential aspirants gave little importance to the so-called Sabah claim in their political rallies, sorties, candidate debates and media interviews.

Presidential frontrunner former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr has been focusing on unification of the Filipino nation.

He is also emphasising the need to continue President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build Program’”, the war on illegal drugs, elimination of corruption in the government, existing threat of Covid-19 global pandemic and other pressing issues related to national security and economy, among others.
