KOTA KINABALU: Pulau Daat, an island about 587 acres in size and located halfway between Menumbok and Labuan, is up for a public auction at 11am, on May 27, according to a report.

The bid starts at RM121,500,000 and it will be sold on an ‘as is where is' basis.

The island, currently owned by Potensi Bernas Sdn Bhd, has a leasehold of 999 years (expiring on Dec 31, 2853).

It was also previously reported in 2020, that the island was approved for oil and gas storage at least twice but has been abandoned time and time again.

This was because the island is said to be surrounded by shallow and muddy water which makes it unsuitable for the oil and gas industry.
