SANDAKAN: Six foreign boats carrying passengers, claiming to be from the Philippines, were detained by Marine Police on Special Operation duty in Sandakan waters, Wednesday.
The six boats, which were carrying men, women, and children ages three to 68, were ordered to return to their country of origin, according to Sandakan Marine Police Commanding Officer DSP Rusdin Banin.
“Our team also provided information on the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures as mandated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” he said, on Thursday.
As part of the procedures to stop the spread of the Covid-19, he said the vessels were escorted out of Malaysian waters and told not to return.
“They were also told not to engage in fishing activities in Malaysian waters,” he said.
Those with knowledge on such activities can notify the Sabah Region 4 Marine Police via WhatsApp at 0139391197 or go to the nearest police station.
