[UPDATED] ‘I forgive you, my son,’ assaulted elderly man tells road bully

SHAH ALAM – Elderly Zainoldin Hussain, who was assaulted by a motorcyclist near Padang Jawa bridge in Shah Alam last Sunday, has forgiven the perpetrator for his actions.

Still in a state of shock, Zainoldin could not hold back his tears as he said he holds no malice against the 23-year-old man, whom he thinks of as a son.

“I forgive him with all my heart. I’m truly sad, I think of him as a son. He’s only 23.

“I don’t want incidents like this to happen again elsewhere,” the retiree said in a shaky voice at a press conference held at his residence in Kg Padang Jawa here today.

A 22-second video of the incident where a motorcyclist in a helmet was raining punches on Zainoldin in the middle of the road made its rounds on social media since last Sunday.

When the 61-year-old victim was assaulted, he was with his wife and a grandchild and on their way to his in-laws’ houses in Putrajaya and Ampang to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said in a statement on Sunday that when Zainoldin was making a turn into Alam Avenue, a motorcyclist who was on the left started shouting and scolding the victim.

Stopping his car, Iqbal said the victim got out of his vehicle to see if there had been any collision but was then floored by a brutal kick to the chest by the suspect.

“The suspect pushed the victim down and continued to punch him in the head, leading to swelling and chest injuries.”

The police have detained the 23-year-old motorcyclist after Zainoldin lodged a police report on the same day of the incident.

Zainoldin, who suffered injuries on his left eye and left ribs, however, said he will not withdraw the report lodged against the motorcyclist.

“I will leave it to the law. I have done my part and I will leave it to the police to do what they have to do.”

Meanwhile, he denied allegations by netizens who claimed that he flipped off the motorcyclist, which resulted in the assault as he stepped out of his black sedan.

The father of three said that he would not act inappropriately as he is ill.
