Burnley boss Mark Jackson proud of his players after their 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.

Ashley Barnes' 44th minute penalty was cancelled out two minutes after half-time through Emiliano Buendia's volley.

Nick Pope mad several excellent saves, before Matt Lowton was sent off, as Burnley secured a point.

And after full-time, Jackson said: “It's a good point, it's a tough place to come. We knew we would be under the hammer at times, but it is an unbelievable performance in regards of work-rate and grafting, that discipline and desire, it wasn't pretty but at this stage of the season, it was needed tonight.

“He (Nick Pope) has been amazing, he's done that before and we're going to need him. He's a top, top goalkeeper if you look at his performances, we're lucky to have him, he's been terrific, and he was brilliant again.

“It's a shame that we couldn't have held out, but it's a terrific point for us. We've had a group of guys tonight who have really gone for that with their work-rate and desire."

Jackson, on his side's mentality, added: “We've given ourselves a good chance and you always want that, we've got the confidence, but we know there's a lot of hard work still to go, there's 90 minutes of work if we want to achieve what we want to, and that's our goal, to rest up now and be ready for Sunday.

“They are used to going to those places where they have to dig, and they've been in those moments before, so they are comfortable with being uncomfortable and they showed that tonight, we could have had a bit more quality but it was an important point."
