SANDAKAN: Marine Police here tracked down and detained seven speedboats manned by seven men aged 29 to 70, believed from the Philippines, when they attempted to enter the country’s waters in the Inner Bouy sea area up to the Nunuyan sea area late Wednesday.

Commanding Officer of the Sandakan PPM Operations Headquarters, DSP Rusdin Banin, stated that prior to that, the Sandakan Marine Police detected suspicious boats from the waters of a neighbouring country.

He said the inspection revealed that the foreigners were from the Philippines.

“The boats were then escorted out of Malaysian waters and they were warned not to return in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection.

“They were also warned not to engage in fishing activities on Malaysian waters,” he said.

According to Rusdin, PPM Region 4 Sabah encourages the community in coastal and maritime areas to report any crime or suspicious activity at sea via the Region 4 Sabah Marine Police’s WhatsApp number at 0139391197 or go to the nearest police station for further action.
