SHAH ALAM, May 26 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has prepared kiosk facilities to collect food waste in an effort to encourage food separation at home among the public.

The local authority said the food waste collected will be sent to a processing centre to be turned into compost fertiliser.

Based on the shared poster, MBSA said the kiosk will be situated in three locations including the Seksyen U13 recycling centre in Setia Alam, Seksyen U5 in Bandar Pinggiran Subang, and Seksyen U2 in Taman Perindustrian Saujana Indah.

“The kiosks will only accept excess foods, chicken and fish bones, eggshells, fruits and vegetables except for durians, and coconuts. However, cutlery and food and beverage packaging will not be accepted,” it said in a Facebook post.

Throughout the month of Ramadan, MBSA through its solid waste management and cleaning department realised its programme of collecting excess foods at bazaar sites.

The programme which ran from April 4 to April 21 managed to collect 2,294.4kg of excess food, divided into 1,268.9kg of food and 1,025.5kg of beverages from the bazaars at Seksyen 19, Sri Muda Seksyen 25 and Subang Bestari Seksyen U5.
