MIRI – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg has taken the opportunity to meet constituents during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri visits to reiterate that the state ruling coalition will run in all 31 parliamentary seats and win.
At a Raya gathering with community leaders in his state constituency of Gedong, he said the coalition is aiming to win all 31 parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak and see the return of state rights.
“We want to win all the 31 seats so GPS can be the force to fight for Sarawak’s rights in the country. We want our rights back.
“We need the people to vote for an overwhelming victory for us in the coming general election.”
Two days ago, Abang Johari said GPS would not give way to peninsula-based parties, including those it was friendly with, to contest in the next general election.
In last year’s state election, Perikatan Nasional parties like Bersatu, PAS and Umno were not given any seats to contest.
GPS fielded candidates in all 82 state constituencies even though the coalition is a partner of Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional.
GPS, consisting of Abang Johari’s Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak and the Progressive Democratic Party, has been seen as a kingmaker in federal politics.
Of the 31 parliamentary seats, GPS controls 18 while the rest are held by opposition parties and one independent. – The Vibes, May 7, 2022
