Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed seven months for staying in the State after his passport expired.

Alhamza Bidin pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against him.

He was arrested by the police in the city area after the police found he had overstayed in the State after his passport was expired.

The offence, under Section 15(1)(c ) of the Immigration Act, carries a jail term of up to five years or fine of RM10,000, or both, on conviction.

The court ordered Alhamza to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing his jail sentence, the court ordered Alhamza to be referred to the Immigration Department and his document returned to him.

Meanwhile, in another case, the court had fixed Aug 4 this year for trial on the case of a man charged with taking drugs repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the date for D.d Sabry Akran when his case was brought up for pre-trial case management.

The prosecution had served all documents to D.d Sabry pertaining to the case. D.d Sabry allegedly took drugs repeatedly in Kota Belud.

He was charged under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

Pending the date of trial, D.d Sabry was ordered remanded further.
