Kuala Lumpur: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is issuing commemorative coins in conjunction with the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia’s (LKIM) 50th anniversary.

In a statement today, the central bank said the coins were launched by the Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee at an event at Wisma LKIM on April 14, 2022.

The commemorative coins are being issued in two denominations—coloured silver commemorative coin (proof) with a face value of RM10 and Nordic Gold brilliant uncirculated (BU) commemorative coin with a RM1 face value.

BNM said the first coin, made of fine silver with 92.5 purity and weighing 31 grammes, will be sold at RM253 each. The mintage quantity is 1,000 pieces.

The Nordic gold coin, meanwhile, weighs 8.5 grammes and is made of copper and several other metals. With a mintage quantity of 10,000 pieces, it will be sold at RM13.20 apiece.

BNM said these commemorative coins are also available for sale in a set of two, comprising one coloured sterling silver proof coin and one Nordic gold proof coin. Each set is priced at RM308.

“A total of 1,000 sets will be available for purchase,” the central bank said.

To provide a fair opportunity for members of the public to buy these limited-edition coins, there will be a purchase limit of one set of two, one coloured sterling silver coin (proof) and up to five Nordic gold (BU) coins per person, BNM said.
