SANDAKAN: The viral video showing the mass of rubbish around the Piazza Harbour Mall and Sandakan City a day before Hari Raya Aidilfitri has gained thousand views and remarks from viewers.
The Sandakan Municipal Council had been alerted on the matter but, cleaning was difficult due to the crowd.
A tourist from Sarawak, Damien, said he was shocked that the people here were not mindful and littered the area with food wrappings and plastic cups.
“They should be responsible for their own rubbish by throwing them in designated rubbish bins. They were several bins installed.
“The mass rubbish was not only eyesores for us but it definitely indicates how we treat our motherland. The effort from authority would be in vain if Sandakan people fail to be responsible of their own rubbish,” he said.
As for today, the affected area has been cleaned by Harbour Mall and nearby hotel staff together with members of the public and the Council.
