BEAUFORT: District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok cautioned residents against indiscriminate open burning since it can quickly spread and cause a forest fire.
“Fire can spread quickly in dry season like this, so we urge people not to burn their rubbish recklessly,” he said, citing a recent bush fire near St John’s school, which was sparked by rubbish burning.
Following the fire, the team was summoned to Lot 88 Lorong 1 Taman Kinamas, where a cobra had been spotted.
The snake was captured and returned to its natural habitat.
At 6.42pm, the team was dispatched to Kg Pintas to remove a wasp nest from a resident’s home.
Meanwhile, in RANAU, people were advised not to carry out open burning in view of the dry weather.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, warned that it is vital for the public to refrain from practising open burning because even a spark could result in wildfire.
“The public needs to prioritise safety first because fire in the open area could easily become uncontrollable with the risk of losing valuable assets, homes and even lives.
“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, in order to prevent the spread of fire to nearby areas,” he said.
Apart from that, Ridwan said that during the hot season, an increase in calls of venomous animals also becomes frequent.
He said the people are advised to always be wary of venomous animals that would usually look for dark places near their houses.

He said, every fire and rescue personnel in the district is on standby and ready to act upon any fire incident in the district considering the high risk condition taking place right now.
On the same matter, he advised parents to monitor their children and prevent them from playing with fire.
Meanwhile, he warned the public not to make false reports or prank calls through the 999 emergency line.
