Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man was charged with taking drugs repeatedly.

Michael Wong Cheng appeared before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to face the charge against him.

However, no plea was taken from Wong after the charge was read on Thursday.

Wong is accused of taking the drug at 12.55am on March 3 this year after testing positive for the drug.

He allegedly had two similar convictions.

The offence, under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a jail term of between five and seven years and whipping on conviction.

The court set June 2 for mention and no bail was offered to Wong pending the date.

During the proceedings, Wong informed the court that he wished to be represented by a counsel.

Meanwhile, a man was jailed five months and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for entering the State illegally.

Amiruddin Anwar admitted to entering the State without a valid document.

He was arrested after failing to produce his identification document on April 21 this year at the city area.

The court ordered Amiruddin to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing his jail sentence, Amiruddin was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
