Kota Kinabalu: Three undocumented girls died of suspected drowning after falling into a large ditch in Kg Bunga Raya, Kepayan, near here, Monday.
According to sources, the police beat station at Queen Elizabeth Hospital received information from the hospital's emergency department about the bodies of the two girls taken there and another to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2.
"Based on witness testimony, it was determined that the incident occurred in the large ditch area of Kg Bunga Raya Kepayan, which is quite remote and located about 200 metres from the nearest houses," sources said.
The three victims, ages five to 12, were playing on the ditch's embankment when one of them fell before the other two also jumped into the water to try to save her.
