KUNAK: Cherisse Tadius (pic), 21, was crowned Miss Popular in a voting contest held in conjunction with the Kunak district’s Kaamatan Festival celebration, here, Saturday.

Cherisse received the most votes from visitors and guests at the Sri Kunak Community Hall during the Kaamatan celebration highlight event.

The Miss Popular competition, according to Kunak KDCA Chairman Josue Petrus, was a new event held in conjunction with this year’s Kaamatan Festival, which was held face-to-face after being stopped for two years because to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The winner of the Miss Popular category was chosen by the votes of the guests in attendance,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Kunak District Officer Awang Mohd Yusoff urged the district’s residents to continue to foster bonds of togetherness among people of all races and cultures.

“Although the Kadazandusun minority lives in some village areas in Kunak, the presence of a multi-racial community to celebrate Kaamatan together shows the closeness and harmony. This is what makes us special,” he said.
