Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has apologised to supporters after their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Arteta admitted Arsenal failed to compete on Monday night.

He later said: "First of all today, apologise, because this performance was nowhere near what this club deserves and especially because this club wants to play in the Champions League and this performance today is nowhere near that, and hopefully we will try to win the game, see what happens and play much better obviously than what we have done today."

Arteta also commented on the dwindling top four chances.

"In football it is always possible, that's why tomorrow we have to lift ourselves up and be ready because on Sunday we have to beat Everton and then we will see what happens," he added.
