Kota Kinabalu: Kinabalu Jaguar Football Club (KJFC) came from behind to draw 1-1 with Sains FC in their M3 League Group A match at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Paroi Stadium on Saturday.

Defender Zaki Sapri was the unlikely hero when he found the equaliser after receiving a cross from Leopold Alfonso in the 49th minute.

KJFC, who were hoping to continue their four-match winning run, received a shock when the home side took a one goal lead through S. Gevanesh from a corner kick in the seventh minute.

The setback did not demoralise the players and instead they mounted wave after wave of attack to search for a goal but to no avail until Zaki’s strike.

They had chances to steal all three points but efforts from Leopold, Zulkifly Harun and Shafie Talip were denied by the Sains FC goalkeeper.

Team manager Adzhar Mohamad when contacted on Sunday said they should have won the match with their dominating display after the early setback.

“We are a bit disappointed even though we managed to bring back one point.

“We missed too many scoring opportunities in front of the goal and we need to improve on that before our next match,” he said.

KJFC next match is against Malaysia University at home on March 22 at 4.15pm.

Meanwhile, the draw saw KJFC remain second in the table standing with 13 points, three points behind leaders Manjung City FC but have a match in hand.
