Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans are urged to continue wearing face masks outdoors even though it will become optional starting today (May 1).
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this is in view of the percentage of sporadic transmissions which shot up to nearly 65 per cent on Saturday.
“Even though Sabah recorded a low number of cases in the last few weeks, sporadic infections still remained high every day.
“This means the risk of transmission is still high, especially in crowded places. It is upon this factor that we urge the public to continue wearing face masks even though relaxation has been granted,” he said in a statement, Saturday.
Sabah recorded 46 cases on Saturday while no deaths or new clusters were identified.
Masidi said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 12 cases, followed by Penampang (8), Sandakan (6), Putatan (4), Tawau (4) and Lahad Datu (2).
“A total of 12 districts did not record any new cases,” he added.
He said the majority of cases were mild, with 44 out of 48 being category one and two infections, while four were in category four. There were no category three and five infections.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, 3,306 took their vaccines on Apr 29, of which 356 were adults, 198 were teenagers and 2,752 were children.
