Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard expressed a desire that referee Jon Moss's display would be looked at after his side's 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

The Birmingham-based club put in a spirited display at home against the title contenders.

Villa took an early lead, but Liverpool pegged them back minutes later.

The Reds then took the lead through Sadio Mane in the second half, and held on for all three points.

When asked about the referee post-game, Gerrard replied: "No comment. I just hope it is looked at. That is all I will say.

"I don't want to be sour.

"We have lost the game and Liverpool have scored two goals against us, we need to look at that. I don't want to try and cover over any cracks.

"But you asked me a question and I said I hope the referee's performance is looked at."

When told later that Moss was retiring at the end of the season, Gerrard replied: "Good."
