KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a “Datuk” to assist in investigations into a case involving bribes to cover up the forgery of palm oil sales tax declarations.

Two others, a senior department official and a former civil servant, had been arrested last Wednesday in connection with the same case.

The two suspects were believed to have received a bribe of about RM700,000 from a palm oil factory to cover up the forgery of sales tax declarations submitted monthly to Sabah’s finance ministry.

An MACC source said the Datuk, a 66-year-old former civil servant, was arrested at about 4pm today after giving his statement at MACC’s office in Sabah.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest. He said a remand application is expected to be made at the magistrates’ court tomorrow. – FMT
