THE Supreme Court of South Korea upheld the 18-month jail sentence imposed by High Military Court to former BigBang member Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung Hyun, 32.
On May 26, the Supreme Court of South Korea delivered the decision on an appeal filed by Seungri, which was heard in January.
Seungri was indicted on a total of nine criminal charges in January of 2020, including solicitation of illegal prostitution, illegal overseas gambling, spread of illegally filmed sexual content, embezzlement, threatening and assault and others.
During the trial at the Military Court, Seungri was ordered to serve three years in prison after he was found guilty on the nine charges. He filed an appeal against the sentence, which was later reduced to 1.5 years by the High Military Court.
Seungri has been held in a military prison after the decision was delivered at the end of the trial in August 2021.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on May 26, he is expected to serve out the rest of his time in a civilian prison, and is expected to be released in February 2023.
