KINABATANGAN: A 10-year-old girl and a 53-year-old man suffered burns in a fire incident involving two houses in Kg Jaya Baru, Kota Kinabatangan, Thursday morning.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Nurul Azlan Shah Jamalludin said the two victims were sent to hospital by the public before the arrival of firemen.

He said they received a distress call at 7.53am via the MERS 999 line and immediately rushed nine members and two utility vehicles to the scene 8km from the station.

“The fire involved two non-permanent houses with an area of ​​50 x 30 feet and 40 x 20 feet which were totally destroyed.

“The team managed to control the fire from spreading to four nearby houses and the operation ended at 10.11am,” said Nurul.

Nurul said also at the scene were Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and police.

During the incident, the fireman also saved a cat from being burnt.
