SANDAKAN: Former Sabah Tourism Board (STB) member Datuk John Lim said there is a need for the Government to make clear the categories and mechanism of the RM1,500 minimum wage policy to avoid confusion and feeling of double standards.
He said it is also vital for the Government to review the quota system of hiring foreign workers, especially for tourism players who have been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Optimistic that the numbers of foreign and domestic travellers will gradually increase in the coming months and years, John feared the minimum salary hike to RM1,500 would hamper or slow down the recovery of local companies.
