KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin has been dropped as a Bersatu member with immediate effect, according to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement today, Muhyiddin said Zuraida’s membership was terminated in accordance with Article 10 of Bersatu’s constitution, where membership is immediately revoked if they announce departure from Bersatu, or join another political party.
The Pagoh MP thanked Zuraida for her service and said he will propose a new name to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to replace her in the cabinet as her appointment was on Bersatu’s mandate.
“I thank her for all her service to the party,” the former prime minister said.
“I will propose a new name to the prime minister soon to be appointed as a member of the cabinet, seeing that Zuraida’s position as a minister was made on Bersatu’s quota.”
Muhyiddin also said that Zuraida’s membership was previously questioned during a recent party supreme council meeting.
Following the meeting, the party issued a letter to Zuraida on May 9, and she subsequently responded via a letter dated May 23.
Based on her response, the party had forwarded the case to its disciplinary board for further action, but the matter has now become moot.
Zuraida today announced that she was officially joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia after months of speculation that she had fallen out of favour with the Bersatu leadership. – The Vibes, May 26, 2022
