Spain is set to approve a new health measure that will grant women up to three days of menstrual leave per month . The Spanish government is said to approve the new reform plan next week, which will also include providing female school students with sanitary pads, among others.
According to Spain's Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence, Ángela Rodríguez, The latest reform plan is implemented to emphasize the importance of menstrual health as well as to educate the public on the severity of menstrual pain, where most women suffer from dysmenorrhea.
Apart from the menstrual leave application and free sanitary pads program, Spain is also planning to abolish the need for a parental permission requirement for 16 and 17 years old seeking an abortion in the country. Other countries that have implemented menstrual leave include Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Zambia.
